Vietnam Veterans of America, Detroit Chapter 9 Presents Wreath

Mr. George Adams, Director of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Detroit Chapter 9 presented the VTOT Board of Directors with a wreath to display for Memorial Day. And by happenstance, a newly commissioned Ensign in the US Navy was at the Tribute with her family for some personal photos, and she joined us for a group photo to carry on the tradition of service to our Great Nation!

Inaugural Memorial Day Parade

Residents and Veterans honored Fallen Service Members with the 2019 Memorial Day Parade and Commemoration that concluded at the VTOT site. A WWII B25 Marauder Bomber from the Yankee Air Museum made three wonderful flyovers during the parade. This inaugural event was such a great success that the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce has already begun planning for the 2020 Memorial Day Parade!

Covid-19 Impacts VTOT

  • The VTOT planned to dedicate the first of five US historical document markers at the conclusion of the Rochester Memorial Day Parade on May 25th, 2020. Sadly, the parade has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the pandemic has also prevented shipment of this beautiful granite Monument of the Declaration of Independence from the manufacturer.
Please check this site for updates on the date of our dedication ceremony.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic has also delayed manufacturing of our spring 2020 Brick Paver orders. Our goal is always to install the spring order before Memorial Day but we aren’t sure that will be possible this year.
Please check this site for updates on when we will install those pavers.

Help Support the Tribute

  • Master PlanThe Master Plan plan includes an improved entrance sign and a total of five historical makers, as well as raising the VTOT Endowment Fund for perpetual maintenance of the Site.
To learn more about contributing to the next phase of the plan, please contact Directors Terry Gonser carnusse@aol.com or Tim Reese timreese2011@comcast.net for information.   Click here to see an illustration of the next phase.
  • Volunteers Needed: The VTOT is seeking two new members to join our volunteer staff:
    • Webmaster Our webmaster posts pictures and other information to the website to keep it current, and manages the “Find Your Paver” tool on the webpage.
    • Brick Paver Coordinator. Our paver coordinator tracks orders for engraved brick pavers during the year, and twice a year submits an order to the paver engraver to get them made.
Both positions involve some calls, emails and the occasional monthly meeting. If you have a few hours each month and would like to donate your time in support of Veterans and the VTOT project, please contact Board Members Tim Reese (timreese2011@comcast.net) or Terry Gonser (carnusse@aol.com). These are fun and rewarding positions!
