Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township

5236 Adams Rd – Oakland Township, Michigan

250th Birthday of the U.S. Army

Calling all Army Veterans and their families.  The US Army will turn 250 years old on Saturday, June 14th!

So please join the VTOT at 9am on Saturday June 14th at the Veterans Tribute on 5236 Adams Rd to celebrate the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Army.

To get a great start to your busy Saturday, stop by the Tribute and join the Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township in celebrating this important date in American history.  We will hold a very brief ceremony to recognize the Army’s 250th birthday, including ceremonial cutting of a birthday cake by the oldest and youngest Army Veterans in attendance.  Have some cake, drink some coffee (guaranteed to be better than the Army coffee you remember!), tell some stories with fellow Veterans, and then get on with your day.  We hope to see you there!

Note  – the Nation’s official celebration will be held in Washington DC on the National Mall starting around 6:30pm.  That event will include a parade of Soldiers and equipment and speeches by national leaders.  The event will be televised on many TV and cable stations

Army Birthday History:  The Army was formed on June 14th 1775 by an act of the 2nd Continental Congress then meeting in Philadelphia, PA.  Leaders of that Congress also appointed then Colonel George Washington of Virginia as its first Commander in Chief.  On that momentous date, the US Army consisted of multiple volunteer militia units which had surrounded British troops in Boston after the battles of Lexington and Concord in April of 1775.  The Army’s fist battle took place just three days later, on June 17th at Bunker and Breed’s Hills outside Boston.
